This week I was dreaming about a new character in the fourth book. I won’t drop spoilers yet, but I did start drafting that a little bit. Though, that did make me think about some of the main characters’ arcs overall. Since it was Tweety who gave me the biggest arc changes to consider, I thought about laying out her journey across all the books planned so far. So, that’s our music story this week.
First we have the opening Red Letters book, tentatively called Sinful Sunrise. This one is mostly told from Tweety’s POV. It showcases her rise from nothing to a bar staple with a future career in the works. Of course, it’s not that simple or easy. And love is always a fun complication too. So, this Dorothy song hits how Tweety feels in book 1. Currently I am treating this book as a Women’s Fiction Slice of Life, but I am about to query it out again and see how that goes.
A Beautiful Life – Dorothy
For the second book, currently called Red Letters, Yellow Days, we explore the relationship that defined Tweety. Our Main Male Character Woods is heavily in it, with his POV for the first time, and we see the story from both sides. Even though I still don’t call it a romance, there’s a ton of passion and the slow burn from book one pays off hard in book two. Which is why Kiss Me Deadly fits this book so well.

Book three is a funny thing. I sort of call it an OVA, because it is not meant to add to the main story, but it also feels like a good fan service book at that point in the story line. It would be called Red Letters, His Sinful Song. This would be essentially book one but from Woods’ POV, with a bit of buddies on a road trip vibes. There is new content and context, but it’s book one moments also. The idea is that there’s a book, and Woods is reading it on this road trip. At this point, Tweety has been the way she is for years, so Woods is tardy to the party. And Tweety? She’s at the I hate myself for loving you point.

Book four is the one I started drafting this week, with a new character. But this new character? Knows her past too. So Tweety can be in her grief and fire, growing from the place she’s been stuck for years. It’s called Red Letters, Soulful Nights. And if you know anything about my writing by then, you’ll know it’s not that easy to just move on, and sometimes your past shows up like they deserve a second chance romance…

Our fifth book is still in the Red Letters series, and is going to be called something Sunsets. All series long, our characters got what they wanted, but maybe not how they wanted it. So, how do two people with a lot of history and misunderstandings find out if they are still meant to be and get a second chance? Yes, we could use their fame, or we could strip the masks and see if the people they are, not what they pretend to be is enough for love and maybe eternity. Plus, some of the other characters I grew to love get their happy endings. It’s closure, but it doesn’t have to end forever. Just feels like a good way to end the journey’s and leave room for other Red Letter universe stories if needed.
