This playlist mixes both the Hot Soulful Nights and the Scorching Red Letters vibes. If pictures on a mood board can tell one story, and the fiction Friday tells it a different way… Today I can try to let you into my head for another version of the writing process. Because I love a good playlist to anything I’m working on. And sometimes the short story moments come from a shuffled playlist.

Bet you thought I might go with Grease version Summer Loving song of Olivia Newton John and John Travolta? If this was a clear couples kinda week? Maybe. It’s just hot weather, parties, and ideas that sounded better in your head. Things that feel legendary, but seem like par for the course. AKA-

So, now that the summer moody heat and crazy is embedded in the background, where’s this scene taking place? Half the year we can tell pool related stories. And the heat, longer daylight, and generally more lazy free time? Even fried brain cells need cooling off. Sometimes ice cream isn’t enough. Some see pools as ways to be less restricted and play around with someone they find interesting…

Public Pool Party – Lucy Angel

Others? Giant experiment space. Because a couple of drinks and the mad scientist comes out with “brilliant” ideas that they’ve never seen before. Logistics don’t matter, physics applies only when a belly flop burns. But that idea? Once seen can’t be unseen and simply must be made real. Such things are why there is a bigger budget in Soulful for pool floats and tools. At least the chairs are more hose wash friendly…

Gravity – NerdOut Ft Dan Bull

And how exactly does one go from stories inside the bar to poolside mad science? Of course substances are involved. Then talking about wanting chocolate pudding turns to things like jello shot ideas…

In the morning? When you don’t remember what happened, and can’t recall if it’s real or a dream of the night before? Someone will hand out water and aspirin before breakfast like you’re in voluntary hold. If you stick through Manic Monday, there’s Taco Tuesday… In a blink it’s Saturday night again… Hopefully the jello shot idea turns out differently this time?
