Music Monday Tall Tales

This month we’re talking about the bar world. For this Monday, I’m thinking about music that tells stories you might hear in a bar, with or without the beat behind it.

After all, Tweety isn’t our only unreliable narrator…

What if short moments that make or don’t make the main story are inspired by song suggestions? Or if songs sound like something that might happen here, in this random bar world. After all, there’s many reasons to question the drinker’s tales. Is it real or embellished? True or mixed with song lyrics? A combination of all of the above? Because chains of chaos can snowball into bigger stories of crazy.

For instance, a Bebe theme song might be the streak, because that’s kinda her in her own way.

The Streak – Ray Stevens

Or Collar’s case files have that air of police procedural with spoofy comedy cops. And a little undercurrent of secret agent man, if he tells the story himself.

Secret Agent Man – Johnny Rivers

Consequences matter, and so do the events. How they happen, cause and effect. This song is a long story of events, but it feels like it’s something you’d hear on a night in Soulful. In some cases, you only get the whole story when the different people involved get together and share their part in it.

Third Rock From The Sun – Joe Diffie

The best source of the nightly stories comes from guessing who’s flirting with who. Those rumors, quick dances, sly looks… every moment that makes or breaks the people you come to see if they made it together yet or not.

Something To Talk About – Bonnie Raitt

But what’s it like interviewing Tweety herself? You ever hear the one about interviewing Jaws? Listen and let me know what you think… Is it similar?

Mr. Jaws – Dickie Goodman
