A rare treat. This week I am using songs in the Halloween scene section of the book, so you get a sneak preview if you read me here before you ever read the books.
First up in our Red Letters Halloween Party weekend is not the songs Woods’ band started their audition with, no. We start with the one where the band is getting into their groove, playing with their audience, teasing the Hostess Tweety. To be fair, she teased them first, with some musical inadequacy innuendo while dressed like a naughty nurse. And there may or may not be cuffs involved in the band playing of this song in the bar. But, Tweety dared the band to make her want to dance, and in doing so they got the party started, even adlibbing the cat calling in the original song.
Girls Girls Girls – Motley Crue
And the band answered our hostess with a perfect joke response. Granted, they planned to play it, but if you win the dare? Yeah, it’s a confidence booster, and maybe a chance for Woods to lyrically flirt with that Tweety… What does Have A Drink On Me mean to you, reader? Friendly? Flirty? A tease? An invitation? Let me know.
Have A Drink On Me – AC/DC
On the second day of the party, the fictitious bar band started with something instantly recognizable and just creepy enough for Halloween. Woods even was noted as having a costume on for this day, one that went with a little nickname about his “bedhead” looking like Wolverine. Of course, it wasn’t what it looked like, but words and images stick with you. Some are dreams you wish for, some are nightmares. Wonder if that had anything to do with how this song ended up on their set list, huh?
Enter Sandman – Metallica
Oh, speaking of nightmares? What if, you’re lyrically flirting with someone of interest to you, and your lead singer with that bit of ego makes teasing about not being what’s expected sound filthy? This one plays, and the band admits nerves again, while the lead singer starts to unnerve our hostess. He isn’t doing anything you wouldn’t expect from someone trying to emulate the 80’s in a cover band moment. The crowd enjoys it, but not our FMC, possibly not our MMC either, though, neither would ever ruin the performance.
Talk Dirty To Me – Poison
This sort of double meaning continues on the final day, affectionately known as Pin Up Day. The girls had a theme, and more people came in costumes. The band did a lot of Crue, but before their final song on that stage? This song played. Even though it obviously hints at the band’s feelings, being intense and heated, this is almost the calm before the storm. After this song is a bit of a thank you speech, and an outro song with VIPs, and the band starts working on their career, not just covering songs to see if people would want to see them play together. Besides this being a good song, it hints at emotions to come the rest of that Halloween day too.
Hot Blooded – Foreigner
