Magical Music Monday

Friday we talked about feelings, and Wednesday we talk about (k)nights, so this Music Monday is quite perfect for that magical winter spell that makes romance movies, and makes Hallmark Christmas movies seamless. I don’t say I’m up there with Hallmark, but I do think there’s a song for all your romantic moods, snow or not.

This one is one of my absolute favorites. As a kid, it was fun, had a story to follow, and was memorable. As an adult? I so get the whole missed connections because life happens thing. But this story in Christmas form? Even it suggests that magic and fated meetings happen because they are supposed to. If you are meant to, you will. The end of year, with snow and seasonal greetings just gives it a pine scented flare with a built in anniversary retelling.

Christmas Wrapping – The Waitresses

Another story setting up a season themed romance is this one. A little meet cute, a little instant love, a little foreshadowing to a happy ever after, all wrapped up in the message that love isn’t controlled by the weather. And yeah, I’m a sucker for a good deep story told simply and softly.

A Winter Romance – Dean Martin

Here we have an example of all that getting to know you energy, with the fireside, the together type activities you think about that work in December without excessive explanation. I even love how it’s like I’m going to get to know you better. That’s book or movie core in a romance, and that’s what I love about meeting new characters. I get to know them better by watching them get to know each other.

This Christmas – Donny Hathaway

This one? Tells a story, and feels like a long distance romance moment too. That it’s not a holiday without you energy. Also let’s one dream of showing up or having the person away show up just for you in this magical moment. I may absolutely be speaking for one of our well know lasses, who wouldn’t say it out loud, but might give Sly side eye if this song plays too much… Because emotions are complicated enough, and made worse when you can’t catch a break from them either.

Merry Christmas Darling – The Carpenters

You know how I said if they showed up? Yeah, this is that feeling in a song. When that one thing you need doesn’t fit in a box, but fills your heart like nothing else can. That someone who excites you and grounds you just by existing. That magic? That’s deep this is my person completely and the only thing that really matters.

Underneath The Tree – Kelly Clarkson
