Music Monday, Unrequited Or Unread?

Today’s music post kinda fits both writing worlds this week. The usual Red Letters world that I’ve lived in a long time, and the newer one posting on Wattpad, Devour Thee Slowly. You should check it out and see if this playlist applies to the chapters available so far.

One sided love happens, and sometimes you find out the hard way, sometimes you know it from the start, but that person means something to you anyway. Otherwise you wouldn’t have cared in the first place.

They do something to you, that feels like they light up a room and shine like the sun on you. Just being in their orbit inspires you and makes you feel worthy of being seen. Even if you aren’t seen the same way in return. You want to be around them because of how you feel around them. It feels like happiness or healing in doses, even if it’s not permanent yet.

She’s Got A Way – Billy Joel

Maybe you read more into it than they did, and your memories don’t match up? As if sharing a moment is an agreement to you both, and not simply a cup of coffee to the one not invested in it the way you are. That walking away is an option, because nothing is keeping them with you. When it’s time to say goodbye because it’s no longer healthy feeling this almost love with someone who won’t be equal with you.

Almost Lover – A Fine Frenzy

When you come to terms with just being a friend, because they didn’t take the time to get to know you. You have all these feelings, but it just didn’t match up in the right timing. If you remember your 90’s films, you might remember the way there were a lot of “I’m ok watching you date someone else as long as you’re happy” type characters and in general that kind of unrequited or unread love. As a saying goes, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink… And you can’t make people see what they just won’t see.

You Don’t Know Me – Michael Bublé

A little off beat and on the nose, but new songs for character playlists are a great thing. Especially if they have to walk in this feeling for a while. The accepting that your feelings are unrequited and there’s nothing you can do to change that but to work on accepting that as fact and moving past it, in it’s own stages of grieving.

Unrequited Love – Lykke Li

If you choose to fall again for someone new, or fall back into that prior pattern, unmatched feelings say “I am willing to wait for you.” That that something special about you makes me fall apart. That I’ll put up with the games and the teasing because it means connecting with you, even if it’s not healthy yet. Because if emotions were sane and logical, they wouldn’t be called feelings. They’d be thought processes. But hearts? They are strong and bounce back and look for the good parts that match our own parts whenever they can. Because falling in love requires being open to it in the first place.

I Fall Apart – Rory Gallagher
