Unspoken Tenderness Tuesday

In a week with unrequited love elements, I have to wonder about why. What’s the motivation for you to take a back seat to someone else. Why are you staying silent? Fear of failure? Knowing it’s all in your head? You love them so much their happiness is more vital than your own? It’s never I just didn’t feel like telling them. There’s always a reason behind the silence others see. And sometimes? It might be the most romantic move you have ever done. Because, as 80s movies taught us, who better than the reliable best friend, with no interest paid by the main character, to help the main character woo someone else, right? Pretty in Pink, at least Some Kind Of Wonderful gave us that closure of unrequited can win too. I also think of that movie Secret Admirer, with a love letter that gets passed around and causes confusion.

So, today, let’s talk about unsent messages, and what haunts you in your reads? Did you ever want to see what happens if the best friend who clearly is interested, if they just went for it? Would that be a better story? Or just a different one?

If I can’t find 80s movies, Anime and Korean shows have been filling in that gap for me, because I can’t think of one Korean show that doesn’t have some info on the side and back characters and I remember watching the characters step aside for someone else and it’s one thing to read it, another to see it. Because it’s a feeling in that silence. It may be stoic on the outside but it’s definitely screaming with tenderness on the inside.
