Friday I teased a very short piece about the character Woods. In the Red Letters series, there are books where he is very quiet. Not the big talker type. But he is the loudest quiet man in a room. And one of the ways he talks? Music. So, if he can’t explain himself in a piece of fiction, maybe he can make you understand his feelings with songs.
Always first up has to be something that Woods gets known for resembling. Just because he’s British, plays guitar and sings, has blond spikey hair… People say he looks like Billy Idol. And while not wrong, Woods isn’t exactly like Idol, just a quick glimpse resemblance mistake. But, Billy does have some great songs worth hopping on stage to sing. Especially when Woods used to try to musically flirt with a certain waitress type just to make her blush…
Flesh For Fantasy – Billy Idol
Another one Woods would sort of sing along to as he strummed late at night, letting the music player do more lifting even if his message was still loud and clear? The type of seduction that says this is what I’m looking for, this is what I like about you, I don’t care about some of the things you worry about. And in their case? I would say Woods would even admit she doesn’t see it in herself yet either, but he could have, right from the start. (Bonus? I forgot this video reminds me of the opening of their story. A rock musician in a certain type of pants can be very eye catching from behind…)
Kiss – Prince
One that he would sing to seduce, but only with the bar packed so everyone knows who it’s about without fully singling her out and making her feel too much pressure? This one, because it’s like a character study truth song. It’s his feelings, but written by someone else (from the pre-band times) so the audience knows how to sing along while he speaks from a stage to what he hopes is just one woman.
Need You Tonight – INXS
If the last song was pre-band times, this next one is more for after the band has taken off and Woods has no choice but to be on the road. The irony of course is that the more he writes about her, about his feelings, the more popular they get. But to Woods? He’s always somewhere seducing just one person, chasing those moments that felt free and heaven like before life became the dream he thought he wanted.
Just Like Heaven – The Cure
What sort of seduction song does Woods have for anytime in the series? This next one gives hints of his feelings as if he were to write a song, and hints of the why nothing sticks when hes popular, what he wants and what he remembers, all while still feeling like something that fits into that musical flirtation beginning where they danced around talking by talking about the songs themselves.
