As we leave the month of love and those flirt games behind, it kicks into something of spring fever. That it’s getting warmer, the sun exists again energy. And in Soulful? Spring fever is more like Duck, Dive, Soulful. Why? There’s some adult versions of duck duck goose, pastries go flying, and the spring fever energy gets into our most chaotic ones, who have been dying to run rampant. So, yeah, it’s a feel good time, and also a protect yourself time, because the bar world is not bubble wrapped and sometimes people get animal energy. But for now? let’s just welcome the nice before the crazy kicks in.
Like that first day when it really feels like winter ends and you feel the sun, the season changing. It may talk about the sun, but to me? It’s always felt like more, like hope and possibility. That things are looking less bleak around you so there’s more positivity to draw from. A thaw in everything. That renewal spring promises feels like a chance too.
Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles
Positivity like feeling good and looking good for yourself, no longer aimed at attracting or distracting someone. It may feel vain, but feeling like you look your best is a form of confidence, especially if you need to fake that to make that happen for yourself too. Feeling good matters. Doesn’t solve everything, but it’s a good start place.
Good As Hell – Lizzo
Another one with a sunny energy, (ok and maybe a bit of a Beatles sound) this one starts to give us that energy, not just hey it’s coming, but the beat and the words are both hard to not engage with. That beat has a movement in your body feeling, like they might be talking about running down the avenue, but there’s an extra beat or bump in your steps too. Toe tapping might not be for all, but you can’t tell me that you’re not singing along with the chorus? And in bar land? They love a call and respond song, because well, there’s lots of people shouting and having a good time, so the fastest way to join in? Sing along, dance along, feel the energy change to something building around you.
Mr. Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra
Both a song to do something with that energy, AND a Soulful PSA with useful combat training advice all in one. Because, yes, you can dance to it all by yourself, or you can avoid various rambunctious sorts with that twist away or a good bent knee moment. Diving doesn’t mean hitting the floor, there’s a real art to dodging chaos like it’s not happening and continuing to make life around you look totally normal… Or don’t twist, duck, slide, dive, etc and be a chaos type and take a snack to the face. Props go to those who can catch a flying cupcake, the snacks free, and so is the next drink. Win win, if you feel lucky like that.
The Twist – Chubby Checker
But the real sort of energy that feels like it fits duck, dive, Soulful? Has to be the source material, jump jive and wail. That swing energy, that dancing skill? Especially in the 90s revival? That’s what the characters in the bar world grew up on. So, that level of crazy is their whole starting point. Welcome to the spring fever coming this month. Hope you’re ready to join in.!
Jump Jive & Wail – The Brian Setzer Orchestra
